1. PRIORITISE GOOD SKINCARE OVER MAKEUP
With young kids, sleeping well is a rare pleasure and the results of a bad night’s sleep instantly show in your skin. When sleep deprived, your body produces cortisol that can break down collagen and cause dryness, puffiness and dark circles under the eyes. If you have to choose, prioritise taking care of your skin over perfectly applied make-up, because some things you just can’t fake with make-up and healthy skin is one of them. Deeply hydrating and replenishing products that target lines and have a brightening effect on dark circles will leave you looking like you’re actually awake!
2. DON’T FORGET SPF
You would never forget to put sunscreen on your kids, so don’t forget to put some on yourself while chasing little ones in the sun! When you’re a mother, it’s even more important to protect your skin from the sun because pregnancy hormones can cause pigmentation and lack of sleep can result in stressed skin with accentuated lines. Always keep a good SPF in your handbag so that you can you apply on the go!
3. MAKE PAMPERING A WEEKLY RITUAL
When pressed for time it can be difficult to remember to use moisturiser let alone to pamper yourself with masks, treatments and peels. But making time for a weekly pampering ritual will not only make your skin look good, it will make you feel relaxed and happy. Pick a day in the week and reserve some time for yourself to wind down and use a chemical peel, a nourishing treatment or hydrating mask. Your skin (and family) will thank you!
4. INVEST IN GOOD PRODUCTS
For a busy mother the little time you have to yourself is holy. When you set aside some precious time for skincare, it’s important that it isn’t wasted on ineffective products. Spend a little extra on high quality products that are optimised for your age and skin type. A really good cleanser, eye cream, serum and moisturiser can take you a long way to feeling good about your skin.
