How to smell good all day

The bad news? Body odour is a fact of life! The good news? There are tips and tricks to keep it under control. Read on to find out how!

The truth is, everybody sweats. And actually we’re supposed to! In fact, our bodies rely on sweating to regulate our body temperature and stop us from overheating. What causes the unpleasant smell is the bacteria that builds up on your sweaty skin. Since sweating is your body's way of regulating temperature, we can’t - nor should - avoid sweating altogether. But there are things we can do to keep that pesky bacteria at bay.

WEAR COTTON
Sweating during exercise is usually a given and the intensity of body odour during sport varies depending on the textile of the clothing being worn. Individuals dressed in sportswear containing ‘odour control’ treatments tended to have less intense body odour than people wearing polyester, and cotton and wool tend to give off even less intense body odour.

However, not all cotton is created equal; avoid cotton blends and stick to 100% cotton fabric. Seersucker and madras cotton are also great options for breathable summer fabrics.

SHOWER DAILY
Hot and long showers can dry out your skin but a shower a day keeps the smell at bay! Scientists recommend one or two-minute showers in lukewarm water, focusing on the armpits and your feet. If you`re planning to shower twice a day, make sure you use a gentle cleanser.

We recommend Love Nature Caring Shower Cream with Organic Oat & Apricot or Scents & Moments Romantic Getaway Sensual Soap Bar .

CHANGE YOUR DIET
Drinking adequate amounts of water each day helps your body function normally and eating more fruits and vegetables, and less meat and fast food, can result in less fuel for odour-causing bacteria.

In fact, a diet rich in fruit and vegetables is associated with a more attractive body odour, whereas a dietary intake high in carbohydrates and seafood has been linked to less pleasant-smelling body odour. It is also suggested that foods such as red meat can hinder the potential to have a pleasant-smelling body odour. When it comes to bad breath, other foods such as garlic, onions, and chives have also all been shown to have an impact. An adequate intake of water throughout the day has been linked to smelling good as water can dilute mouth odour that may be unpleasant.

USE DEODORANT
Most people don’t realise that deodorants prevent odour, while antiperspirants protect against sweat and odour. Either one will make sure you keep smelling good all day! Removing armpit hair also gives odour-causing bacteria less grounds to breed.

We recommend Activelle INVISIBLE Anti-perspirant Deodorant for women and North For Men Subzero Deodorant Roll-on for men.

Overall, many factors contribute to what one perceives as a ‘nice-smelling scent’. Smelling well doesn’t have to be hard and can easily be achieved with a good diet rich in fresh fruit and vegetables, a strategic hygiene routine, keeping healthy, and wearing appropriate clothing.
