Furcellaria lumbricalis is a red-coloured alga that grows on the rocks of shallow waters and is particularly common to the cold northern Scandinavian coast. Also known as Carrageen, Agar-agar or ‘Crab’s bed’, the hardy red seaweed is able to survive in low tides and sandy, dry conditions thanks to its superior rehydration capabilities.
